If it’s broke…

I might still want it.  Had someone bring in a PS2 to sell today, as usual I hooked it up to see if it works and this one didn’t.  It would turn on, but out of 4 games I tested, none of them would load.  Him and his friends kept mumbling to each other over and over about how ‘that’s strange, it was working this morning’.  I hear that a lot from people who bring in broken stuff to try and pawn off on me.

However, the controller and cables work fine, so it’s not a complete loss.  I told him I do buy dead systems for parts and I could pay $15 for it as-is.  He took the offer.

Later when I had time, I took the machine apart and could see that it had been ‘worked on’ before.  There’s a piece broken near the back of the DVD drive, and one of the ribbon cables has a hole through it where someone probably stabbed it with a screwdriver.

My point is, be honest.  I’m not going to buy something without testing it anyway, so if it’s broken, tell me and save me some effort, chances are I’ll still offer something for it.
