Shortly after our little monster was born, we decided it was time to check out digital cameras. After doing a fair bit of research I settled on the Canon PowerShot S400. It had a lot of great features at the time. 4 megapixel pictures, 3 minute video clips with sound, 3x optical zoom, an LCD screen, and best of all, a rechargeable Li-ion battery so I wouldn’t be burning through AAs like crazy.
It’s been a great little camera; 3 years later and over 7000 pictures & vids, it’s still working great. The battery still lasts for about 100 pictures before needing a recharge, and I picked up a second battery shortly after buying the camera so that we’d always have a fully charged one for backup. We use it almost every day, whether it’s to take pictures of the monster, food or scenery.
If given a chance and I could afford it, I’d love to upgrade to a newer model. 4mp was great at the time and don’t get me wrong, the pictures still look good now, but a 7 or 8mp camera with a 10x optical zoom would be even better as long as it’s still as easy to use as the S400.
