dogma.jpgDogma is probably my favorite movie by Kevin Smith. There’s a lot of amazing talent in the movie from the likes of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Rock, George Carlin, Alan Rickman… there’s just too many to name them all. I like the movie so much because of the religious aspects of it. No, I’m not a bible thumper, I can’t remember the last time I attended Mass. I was raised catholic however and used to get dragged to church every Sunday with my mother for Mass and Sunday School.

Anyway, my un-obvious point is that I think religion is rather retarded in general. Sure, I believe there’s something out there, more to life and death than what we can see. I think it’s retarded because of how fanatical people get over religion, so many wars started in the name of this god or that, witch trials because some people believed in something different. It’s ridiculous. It shouldn’t be about this God or that Goddess. It should be about faith. And that’s what makes this movie great.

buddychrist.jpgI’ve heard so many people say Dogma sucked, and their reason for thinking so? Simply because Alanis Morissette was cast as God and they don’t like her singing, therefore they don’t like her acting and therefore the movie sucks because she was in it, playing God. I agree it was a little silly with the storyline of God being a Skee-ball fanatic, but hey, this IS a Kevin Smith movie.

The basic plot of the movie?  Jay & Silent Bob are a couple of prophets who must lead the last Scion to Jersey in order to stop 2 outcast angels from re-entering heaven through a loop hole in Catholic Dogma created when Cardinal Glick came up with the Catholicism Wow campaign to try and generate renewed interest in the Church while also introducing the new Buddy Christ to replace the old depressing nailed to a cross Christ and along they way they encounter the 13th apostle, a muse, a shit demon and Satan who wants to make sure that the last Scion doesn’t make it to Jersey so that all existence will become undone which would finally end his suffering in Hell.

How’s that for a run-on sentence! There is a LOT going on in this movie and if you haven’t seen it yet, go get it, it’s a must see!
