Heroes Unaired Pilot

The first thing I watched out of the Heroes Season 1 box set was the Unaired Pilot. After having watched the series all the way through I’m sure glad they made changes to the original. Rather than Ted the Nuclear Guy, the original pilot had generic terrorists plotting to blow up the city. I see enough of that on 24 every year, and even though the terrorist leader did have some radioactive qualities (he could boil water with his hand) it just wouldn’t have been as interesting as the way the whole Ted/Peter incident played out near the end.
I still have a few questions about the way season 1 ended and I hope they get answered in season 2. I doubt it though, I think they just needed a reason to kill off Nathan. I get that he couldn’t fly himself because he had to concentrate so hard on not blowing up, but they could have easily just shot Peter in the head to shut down his nuke since he would have regenerated anyway. But then again, shooting him might have caused him to blow up too.
