New repair machine

simo.jpgMy new disc repair machine arrived today.  The Simo ZDAG 101 is smaller than the Disc-go-pod and doesn’t require a tank full of polishing solution.  Basic operation is fairly simple, but I think will take a short time to get used to if I want the discs to look like new.  It’s not quite as fast as the demo suggested, in the demo they only do one pass while in reality it can take 4 to 6 passes to restore a disc so that it will play again.  If you want it to look perfect as well as play, it can take 10 to 12 passes using 3 different pads and 3 different cleaning compounds.

Nice to find an article on the zdag 101. I have had mine for about a month, and done about 100 discs. It is most certainly a process to get the discs to look perfect. I noticed ZDAG’s site and one of the posts at Amazon.com tell you to use white pads with yellow cream for light scratches. Haven’t tried that yet. I have troubles getting out scratches at the very end of the disc. WOuld be nice if there was a discussion board for ZDAG 101/Simo Disc Reapir Machine owners.

Yeah I agree completely. When I first got the machine I was trying to stretch my supplies by doing 3 or 4 discs at a time, for each set of pads. The first one would look great but they get successively worse as you go.

So now I just try for better quality and do 2 per pad at the most. For light scratches I’ve always used the yellow cream on the yellow pad, then the white pad with white cream. Next time I have a lightly scratched disc in I’ll try that though to see what happens.
