A Nice Surprise

One morning last week when I opened the store, I noticed a small envelope in the movie return basket. Inside it was a Thank You note and a $10 bill. See, I had helped a customer over the phone who was having problems with her internet connection. The big surprise here is that in the 8 years I’ve been in business, this is the first time anyone has paid me for phone support. So I thank you, kind considerate customer, the world needs more like you.
I can’t count the number of times I answer the phone and people who just bought a computer elsewhere are calling me because something doesn’t work, and they expect me to spend an hour on the phone talking them through a windows re-install or some such thing. I’m already charging the best rates in town for computer repair, yet there’s always going to be people who want it for free.
