Mr. Brooks

215 words eaten alive on October 29, 2007 - Filed Under DVD, Entertainment -

mrbrooks.jpgOne of last weeks new releases, Mr. Brooks has Kevin Costner playing the role of a serial killer. He doesn’t like to kill, but he’s addicted to it.  After 2 years on the wagon and going to AA meetings, he finally kills again but this time he was a little careless and someone took pictures of him.

Spoiler Alert!  Don’t read if you haven’t seen it yet.  The basic story of this movie is a lot like the TV series Dexter that I’ve been watching lately.  A man addicted to killing, but unlike Dexter who only kills criminals, Mr. Brooks will kill anyone he feels like killing.  I really like the way his dark side appears as a living, breathing person to him.  It lets us ‘see’ the what’s going on in his mind.  Or maybe it’s a demon of some sort that no one else can see, prodding him along and encouraging him to kill.  Whatever Marshall is, he helped make the movie great rather than just ending up as an average thriller.

I’m really hoping for a sequel on this one, they need to explore the relationship with his daughter who  has also developed a taste for killing.  It could make for an interesting family outing if he were to teach her the ways.
