Frets on Fire

Guitar Hero is insanely popular these days but until recently there was no way to play it on a computer.  A GH3 bundle will be coming this month for PC users, but if you can’t wait, there’s Frets on Fire.  It’s laid out exactly like Guitar Hero, with a streaming fret board and 5 ‘note’ keys.  These can be played with the computer keyboard (defaults F1 to F5) and the Enter key is for strumming.

If you have the guitar from the XBox version, you can use it on your PC as long as you are running Windows XP or Vista.  The game can be configured to use the guitar so you can be rocking out in minutes.  Being an open source project means the PC version is free!  The main download includes a good selection of songs and since the game includes the ability to create your own there is a near endless supply available to add to it.
