The Reaping, starring Hilary Swank as a woman who has dedicated her life to debunking miracles after her family had been murdered in a religious ceremony. Finding scientific explanations to explain away apparent miracles is her specialty and is the reason she gets contacted by a small town where the local river has turned blood red. During the course of her investigation, more and more events take place, matching the biblical plagues. Animals die, locusts swarm in, food rots and so on.
The residents believe that a young girl is responsible for the plagues and that Katherine is their angel who’s come to save the town. Katherine must decide whether the girl is in fact the spawn of Satan or just an innocent caught up in a bigger scheme. The story is engaging and there are a couple of good plot twists at near the end, especially in the last minute, which opens up a good path for a possible sequel.
