Recycled Plastics

165 words eaten alive on March 30, 2008 - Filed Under Health, Life -

Everything we buy these days is either made of plastic, packaged in plastic or at least gets put in a plastic bag to carry it home in. So even though recycling is a pain in the butt (here we have to sort one bag of paper products and another of plastics, along with regular garbage and also organics in a green bin) in the long run it’s worth the effort. Every month we end up recycling at least 3 bags of stuff.

Most plastics we use everyday are known as HDP (high density polyethylene) and when we recycle them they are processed back into HDPE Granules which is the raw material that new plastics can be made from. Grocery bags and tupperware are among the most common uses of HDPE, things we use every day usually without even knowing. So next time you’re tossing out anything plastic, please recycle wherever possible, our landfill problems aren’t going to go away on their own.
