I don’t buy Jewelry!

People still have it in their heads that I run a pawn shop. My store has never been, and never will be, a pawn shop. We used to be a clearance center and would buy lots of different used items, but that was years ago, and even then we never pawned. In order to pawn we need a special license and a large vault-style room to store the pawned items in to help prevent them from being stolen.

Of course that doesn’t stop people from bringing in all manner of jewelry to try and get rid of. Rings, necklaces and watches are the most common things I see, and if I knew more about them (quality and value) I may consider buying them to resell on eBay or something. I’ve never even heard of Patek Nautilus and a lot of the other big name watch brands, and I can’t tell what quality gold something is just by looking at it, or if various gems are even real.
