MORE Money?! : Gator Byte

Now the Y’arc (Yarmouth Arts Regional Centre) ~~needs~~wants a new building, their current facility is getting very old and outdated. They’ve called for a public meeting on May 5, 2008 to discuss this. They ~~need~~want 8 million to build the new facility. At least they’ve been doing their own fund raising over the last year or so, but I don’t know if that has gone towards the $8m or if they still ~~need~~want an additional $8m. At least they’re publicizing the public part of it too, keeping the people involved. Unlike other recent expenditures made by various parts of government/council in this area.

I still feel Yarmouth could use some other things first, a place for the youth to hang out and do something productive, for one example, a drug treatment facility for another.

The Y’arc already owns the land they are currently on, but apparently part of this meeting is to determine where they should build the new building. Some people think it should go on the waterfront, others think it should stay where it is and I’m sure there’s other who think it should be on Starr’s Road since that’s where everything else is located now. Personally, I think they should stay cost effective and keep it where it is. Just expand a little to put in more parking so people wouldn’t have to line both sides of the street when events are taking place.
