Saga - Free Online RTS Game

It’s been a long time since I played an RTS (real time strategy) game on the computer, the last one I remember playing was Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 which came out a few years ago. The ones I played the most were Warcraft and Starcraft but since Starcraft 2 is still a ways off I decided to check out Saga. It’s billed as an MMORTS with trading card game elements built in. The quick way to get the good troops is by buying booster packs of cards, 10 cards for $2.95. You can also build up resources in-game using the basic units and then buy troop cards from the marketplace.

For a limited time you can download Saga for free, regular price is only around $20 anyway though and includes 3 booster packs to get you started. Once in the game you can play solo, there are tons of quests to do to hunt for treasure and gather resources. You can also take on the quests with a partner in coop mode, or fight head to head in PvP combat.

There are 5 races to choose from and a couple dozen troop & spell types for each race. The cards you get in a booster are random, so if you get cards you can’t use you can trade them with other players. I got a gold dragon in one of my packs which I then traded for a red dragon. The tutorial quests teach you the basics and when you first click on new buildings it pops up a handy info screen to let you know what you can do with it. Having fun so far with my level 5 orc kingdom, check it out if you’re looking for something new to play.
