Winter isn’t what it Used to Be

143 words eaten alive on May 1, 2008 - Filed Under This Town, Weather -

When I was a kid we actually had winter. Snow would start in November and last until March usually, and it wouldn’t just snow one day and melt away the next, it came and it stayed. There were huge snow drifts all over the place, the outer banks by the road were a couple feet high and then back at the ditch there could be 10 feet of snow to get lost in, we could easily spend half a day digging tunnels all through there.

The last few years have been getting rather mild, not as cold as I remember and the snow tends to last for only a few days at the most. Rarely is there enough to really enjoy, and yet the schools seem to close as soon as couple flakes start to fall. Things sure have changed.
