War in Afghanistan Hits Home

176 words eaten alive on September 29, 2008 - Filed Under Life, News -

It was a shock the other day when I learned that one of my oldest friends, a guy I’ve known since I was in grade 4, was injured in a recent Taliban ambush that left 3 more Canadian soldiers dead. Ken Power has been over there for just about 6 months now and was going to be coming home soon, I had talked to him briefly on Aug 29th through MSN and then hadn’t heard from him since. I figured he was back home by now, settling into routine again and so on.

Then another friend sent me a message asking what had happened, so I went looking for info and learned that he’s been in Halifax at the QE2 hospital for the last couple weeks getting skin grafts and having shrapnel removed from his leg. He’s very lucky to be alive and is one of the 5 wounded mentioned in this article on CTV News. He’s in good spirits overall despite the ordeal and hopefully he will be back at home soon.
