Business Security

It seems like everything needs to be watched when you run your own business, especially if you have employees. Not only do you have to keep an eye on the main retail space, you need to keep watch over the back rooms and the cash register as well. A dishonest employee can rob you blind if you don’t pay attention.

Security cameras are a good place to start and it’s easy to go overboard. Even in a small store it feels like 4 isn’t enough, but we all have budgets to work with so that’s what I settled on. Personally, I just use cheap dome cameras, they work well enough for my needs. Bigger businesses need better quality gear though, such as these Panasonic CCTV cameras that IT Planet sells. You can expect to pay upwards of $2000 for a high end camera, but it comes with all the bells and whistles such as pan/tilt/zoom features and being able to control it over the internet from anywhere in the world.

A lot of people seem to like hidden cameras, they make it easier to catch a thief. My theory though is that if a thief can see the camera, he’ll be a lot less likely to steal in the first place.
