The Happening

I’ll start this off with the obvious. M. Night Shyamalan needs to STOP MAKING MOVIES, NOW! He made one really good movie, The Sixth Sense, and ever since then they’ve been getting worse and worse. The Village was at least watchable and still held some sense of surprise until near the end, but now The Happening has just taken the cake as the 2nd worst movie (Cloverfield still holds top honor) I’ve seen this year.
There’s a bit of “suspense” around the beginning, when people start to off themselves in every way imaginable and terrorists get blamed. Chewed up by lawnmowers, a bullet to the brain, diet pill overdose, choking on live hamsters, hair pin through the throat… sorry, my mind started to wander, not all of those were in the movie, guess which ones I made up! Then about half way through it gets revealed that maybe plants are the culprit. Yup, trees and grass are making people kill themselves, wtf? After that there are no surprises what-so-ever. No big twist ending. Shyamalan has gotten stale and bored and is laughing in his mansion at all us suckers who continue to watch his crap, expecting a last minute save at the end of the movie.
They should have played out the terrorist plot line until the last 10 minutes or so, going so far as to send in the military and maybe blow up a small country in the Middle East or something. Maybe have a terrorist cell go for glory and falsely claim they really did cause all those deaths. Then the whole ‘plants gone bad’ thing would have been a surprise.
Not even Mark Wahlberg was able to save this.. thing.. I usually don’t mind his acting but I found this to be a terrible performance. He should stick to action flicks.
