HST Going Back Up

I wish this government could make up it’s mind, set a sales tax rate and stick with it. The HST here used to be 15%. Then they got generous and dropped the GST portion by 1% so the HST was 14% for a little while. Then they dropped GST again so it became 13%. That lasted a couple years or so but now they’ve run out of money and have decided that the best option is to bump the GST back up so now our HST will be 15% again as of July 1, 2010. Argh!
Everytime they change the tax, every single retail outlet, diner, coffee shop, basically anyone who has to collect taxes, whether you’re a little guy like us or a retail monster like Best Buy, has to get their POS system overhauled. If a business owner can’t do it themselves then they have to pay someone else to do it for them and in some cases I’m sure it’s pretty costly. And does the government take this into consideration or offer any compensation? Suuuurre they do. Just like they pay us for all the time and effort spent collecting these taxes for them! (we don’t get paid a cent for this, by the way, for those who don’t know. all sales tax you pay goes right to the government.)
