Shoplifters

First things first, we did NOT stage these videos, the footage is 100% real. These people were caught on camera and reported to the police. Months later when apparently nothing was done about it, we got fed up and printed out pictures to put on the wall and on our website. Shoplifting in our store has been practically eliminated since we put the pictures up.

 12 May 2015

So we had a little commotion yesterday at about 4.20pm, 2 guys and a woman came into the store and one wanting to sell us a game. After informing him that only the boss is able to buy from him, he went up front and chatted with the other guy who was looking at PS4 games.

I didn’t see any harm in it but didn’t notice the woman walking to the side/corner of the store and when I saw her, I had asked if she needed help. When I did go up to the counter, I noticed one of the arthritis cream missing and before she left I had asked if she had forgotten to pay for something. In which she replied very brazenly that she only took the pamplet and the 2 other guys looked really shocked that I would ask the question. All 3 left quickly after , and when I looked back at the security cameras, the above was what I saw.

When the boss put the video on Facebook yesterday night, within 20 mins, we had gotten the name of the shoplifter , the woman – and know where she is from as well as her mother and brother and also her date of birth. An hour later, we had gotten another name of one of her accomplice and we went viral as within an hour more than 5000 people watched the video and 400 people shared it.

I’m very happy that this had gone viral , because other small business are notified and hopefully, they will look out for the trio and of course, we called in the cops as well and you know who is going to be getting a visit soon from the cops.

PS : The shoplifter stole a bottle of arthritis cream , I’m guessing she must have carpal tunnel since she is stealing professionally?

PPS : Thanks to everyone who’ve shared the video and thanks to those who’ve come up with the identity of the shoplifter and her accomplices.

September 21, 2007 – It’s been over a year but we finally have some new shoplifters to put up. First the guy tried to steal a power supply but when someone got his attention he put it back, then wandered down back and stole some blank cassettes. Value? Less than $20.

Edit Jan 11, 2008 – apparently this fine upstanding gentleman (whole stole DVDs from us, and later came in to get violent over his picture being on display) was underage at the time he committed the crime and his mommy has a problem with us having his video up on the website. I have agreed to take it down because I didn’t know he was underage and the law protects these innocent little angels while us evil shopkeepers get the shaft we so deserve. Good job mommy, you’ve raised him well.

Here’s some other shoplifters in action.

Here we have (name deleted) stealing a 4 Port USB Hub valued at $35.

YES BUDDY! WE DO HAVE CAMERAS, IF YOU WERE ANY CLOSER IT WOULD HAVE KICKED YOU IN THE NUTS!

I can’t understand why people are doing something like that! More understandable to me is when a person is hungry and don’t have money for food. But still it’s a crime, I know. But stealing something like that? For fun or what? Maybe someone is addicted, a kind of sickness.

Why would you steal from Gator Byte? Whenever I go down to Yarmouth, I always visit Gator Byte… They have all kinds of cool stuff, and stealing just drives the prices of electronics or anything else for that matter up…

I just happened onto your site and found this. I think it’s a good idea to show your shoplifters in action. Nothing like a little truth. It might just set them free from their foolishness. These people are hurting someone’s business for very temporary gains. It is a good action to take to discourage criminals.

I am a very frequent “Gatorgoer” and i find it hilarious to see these people in action, although… it sort of saddens me to see that they got away with it 🙁

LOL. I think showing your stealers online is a fabulous idea, maybe they will get embarassed and never do it again, maybe people will not let them into a party because they steal, nothing bad has become of you posting their faces online (except the police doing nothing) good job Gatorbyte.

Hi everyone! I currently just bought a business in Yarmouth and love the town. Not knowing anyone, I just recently took my old laptop (because it wasn’t working) into Gatorbyte. Knowing very little about computers myself, I got nothing but respect and honesty when dealing with Gatorbyte, Yarmouth and they helped me with my problem, and charged me a very fair price. I would recommend them to anyone! It saddens me when someone steals at all, but especially from someone as repected and as honest as the ppl at gatorbyte. But good for you Gator, for putting the ppl out there on camera. Word travels quick in a small town 🙂

I thought I was the only one that had this problem nowadays but unfortunately not 🙁 I had a shoplifter the first year I opened to the Public about 4 years or so ago. the guy stole a $8 product and then when confronted by Me …He said to more or less frig off cuz…. I then stopped him at the door and he threw a punch at Me. Needless to say I dodged that punch that was headed for my face and knocked the little B@#*#*d out in My doorway 😛
Later after the RCMP took Him away, His Legal Aid Lawyer tried to have Me charged for assault. The RCMP however did not go along with the Lawyer and refused to press charges against Me as He threw the punch first. I told this short story to let you know some people when confronted with this get pretty desperate so be careful. Good Job Chris 🙂 Art / SCOTIA ARMS AIRSOFT

Love it!! Was doing a quick search on Google and this page was one of the results so I had to check it out. I think is a fantastic idea that more companies should do.
